Great schools of Anchovy!

Updated on:

Great schools of anchovy appear in Atlkat7sem-Howe Sound, bringing with them a feeding frenzy of seals, sea lions, and whales.

Curiously, salmon fishing is the best in 20 years, and fishers say they see big schools of bait fish down deep on their fish finders.
And sea lions are congregating along our shores in bigger numbers than we have ever seen. What are they here to feed on?
Finally, I get my camera down into a giant school of forage fish. Are they herring? No, they are anchovy!
But are the anchovy spawning here in the Sound? If so, they will be back here next year and there is a promise of more sea lions, seals and humpback whales.
Sure enough, I find schools of tiny juvenile anchovy that tell me the anchovy have spawned. Next year is looking good!
