Gambier Island – Vancouver’s Wild Island Neighbour
In 2014, a major wood lot logging operation was proposed by the provincial government for the northeastern quadrant of Gambier Island. The proposed logging would directly impact the largest watershed on the island, stands of old growth forest, and what has been called the ‘wild heart’ of Gambier Island. There has been tremendous local opposition to this proposal. To date, the logging proposal has been stalled.
